About Us

Mr. K. S. N. Murthy is a distinguished technocrat with over five decades of experience in the steel sector and is the Founder and CEO of SIPC Services. Since the inception of the sponge iron sector in India, Mr. Murthy has been a pivotal figure, serving as Chief General Manager (Works) at SIIL, Palvancha, where he spearheaded numerous technological adaptations to suit India's raw material landscape. His tenure at SIIL, spanning 20 years, was marked by significant contributions to process and maintenance during the stabilization of sponge iron technology in India. Following his tenure at SIIL, Mr. Murthy joined Goldstar as Senior President (Works).

Mr. Murthy's career began as an Executive Engineer in the PWD Department, where he was involved in the Srisailam Hydel Power Project for three years. He subsequently worked as Assistant Divisional Engineer at SAIL, Bokaro Steel Plant, for five years.

Mr. Murthy holds an M.Tech in Metallurgy from NIT, Warangal, and a BE in Mechanical Engineering from Government College of Engineering, Kakinada. His extensive research in Synthetic Rutile (TiO2) has been instrumental in advancing sponge iron technology. Under his guidance, SIPC Services implemented the preheating concept in the DRI process, achieving a remarkable 150% efficiency.

As an Industrial Expert with UNIDO, Mr. Murthy supervised the implementation of sponge iron plants in Vietnam and Peru. Recently, he collaborated with Inspire to submit a comprehensive compendium report to UNIDO on "Energy Efficient Technology Options Packages & Practices for Direct Reduction Sector."

Mr. Murthy has authored numerous research and technical papers on Sponge Iron Technology, Synthetic Rutile (TiO2), and Energy. Notably, he pioneered the utilization of sensible heat in waste gases for preheating raw materials and power generation, earning a national award for a power plant project established during the late 1980s to address power shortages.

  • Worked in state PWD as an engineer in Erection of HT/LT lines and Steel structures fabrication works for 4 years.
  • Worked as Assistant Divisional Engineer for H.S.C.L;Bokaro Steels in Steel Melting Shop for 5 years.

  • During his tenure at S.I.I.L;Palavancha, He visited Germany & Brazil as a part of training.He went to Vietnam and Peru as a UNIDO expert to give his expertise to put up plants there.
  • Woked in GSAL (I) Ltd. as Sr.President(Works) for 5 years.
  • Incharge for complete works of 2 coal based D.R Plants of 2.2 lac T.P.Y capacity.
  • Establibhed SIPC Services in the year 2002 and giving consultancy services to various clientele.
  • Offered consultancy serives to more than 60 plants in India and Abroad.

achievements
  • The first DR plant had been established with lurgi technology at palavancha in 1978.The plant was commissioned in june 1980 .During the first six months of operation virtually the plant didn't meet the expectations both in quality and quantity.It had become very difficult task for the group heading the plant to bring it to the satisfactory operating conditions.It took almost 1 year to stabilize the operations as per the Indian conditions. During the course of the operating of the plant more than 150 modifications/changes were to be made to establish the viable plant operations.Few to mention:
  • Study was made to utilize the sensible heat in the waste gases for preheating the raw material/power generation.Considering the acute shortage of power during the second half of 80's a power plant was established to generate power by recovering sensible heat in the waste gases which was otherwise going cooled by spraying water in a wet scrapper.This project had earned a national award.
  • The injection coal size which lurgi specified was 3 to 6 mm the process has to be modified to use 0 to 3 mm otherwise it would not been economical.
  • The coal throwing system at the discharge end was to be modified replacing the dual fuel burner.
  • The mechanical slipperings sealings at kiln and cooler at inlet/outlet were to be modified from cast iron/cast steel to bi metal to get longer life. Otherwise there were occasions when the plant was to be stopped in the middle of the campaign for the replacement of the same.
  • Air injection system at the kiln inlet end for burning volatile's was modified for avoiding the choking of the perforations.
  • QRT system which was originally to use long cable around the kiln had been replaced with copper slippering on the kiln for convenience and avoiding the replacement of the cables frequently.
  • The swirals at the air tube end were to be suitably changed to reduce the chances of forming accretions at the particular zones.
